Biofluorescent Photography Workshops

Join us for an extraordinary adventure as we explore the fascinating world of Biofluorescence through the lens of a camera or smartphone!

Biofluorescence is the absorption of light at one wavelength followed by its reemission at a different wavelength. A molecule takes in a short wavelength, high energy light like Ultraviolet (UV) or blue light and then releases some of that energy again as a longer wavelength light like yellow or red.

Biofluorescence is a way of not just reflecting light, but transforming it by redistributing the energy. Think of it as a little bit of colour alchemy. A new box of colours to paint in the world with. Only this version is a lot more vibrant, shiny and joyful than the regular reflected colours we are used to.

It is one of Nature’s greatest hidden secrets and an area that we have only just begun to explore, with countless discoveries yet to be made.

Camera or Smartphone workshops

We have spent a long time working out the best equipment to use for lighting Biofluorescent photography, the best camera settings and everything else you could possibly need to capture beautiful images.

We offer two different Biofluorescent Photography workshops – A DSLR / Mirrorless camera version and a smartphone version.

Who is the session aimed at?

The Biofluorescent photography tours are aimed at anybody who owns a smartphone or DSLR / Mirrorless camera. With professional guidance in a relaxed atmosphere throughout the workshop, you will learn about composition, adjusting your camera settings to get the best exposure, how to take photos using the special UV torches, and more.

Do I need a special camera?

No! Capturing images of Biofluorescence also known as UVIF photography doesn’t require specially converted cameras or any fancy equipment.

During the walk we will be focusing more on macro subjects, exploring biofluorescent lichen, fungi, flowers, spiders, slugs & snails, caterpillars, moths and plants depending on the time of year.
