“Smell is a potent wizard that transports you across thousands of miles and all the years you have lived.”
– Helen Keller
An aromatic adventure
Discover the wonders of the natural world through one of our most powerful yet underutilized senses – the sense of smell.
Have you ever strolled through a forest and realized that the scents you were inhaling were just as impactful as the sights around you? The fragrant aroma of pine needles or the fleeting scent of a delicate rose can transport you back to cherished childhood memories.
Our olfactory receptors are directly connected to the limbic system, the most ancient and primitive part of our brain responsible for processing emotions and memories. Interestingly, we have over 1,000 different types of smell receptors, compared to only four types of receptors for touch and four types of light sensors.
The power of aromatic plants
Aromatic plants produce volatile substances such as essential oils, green exudates, balsam, and oleoresin in various parts, including roots, wood, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits. These essential oils come in a vast range of aromas and serve various purposes for plants.
Moreover, studies have shown that these fragrant compounds offer numerous health benefits for humans, such as relieving stress and clearing the airways.
What happens during an aromatic walk?
Join us on an aromatic walk, a guided journey through nature led by your nose and sense of smell, as we explore a wide range of local plants and essential oils. We offer a variety of aromatic walks throughout the year and in various locations, including forests, beaches, and gardens.
