Journey into the microcosm of nature

Join us for a unique and fascinating experience as we explore the microcosm of nature through the lens of a microscope. The journey will take you through the hidden beauty of the natural world as we uncover the intricate details of plants, insects, and other organisms that are often overlooked.

With the aid of a magnifying glass or smartphone 100 x clip on digital lens, we will be able to see the world in a new and captivating way, revealing the delicate and often unseen beauty of nature.

What happens during a Microscopic marvels walk?

We offer two different ways of exploring the intricate details of the tiny organisms and structures that make up the microcosm of the natural world:

1) A magnifying glass walk – Ideal for children and groups of people who want to explore and experience nature without the distraction of technology. We provide a 3x / 45x magnifying glass to all participants and we set off to see what hidden wonders we can discover.

2) A digital microscope walk – A 100x microscope clip on lens that works with almost all modern smartphones allows us to get an incredibly detailed view of the natural world. As a clip on lens this allows you to take pictures using your own phone. This walk doubles up as a great introduction to macro photography that is accessible to anyone who has a smartphone.

On either of these walks we will explore a wide range of interesting organisms in nature such as lichen, fungi, plants, insects and other animals in a detail we never normally get to see.

Who is it suitable for?

Microscopic marvel magnifying walks are suitable for children over 5 years old, and for all fitness levels. The digital microscope walks are suitable for children aged 13+ and for adults. Both walks are gentle, inclusive, pleasurable and welcoming.

What to bring?

Microscopic marvel walks move at a slow pace so please make sure to wrap up nice and warm. More clothes are needed than for a normal walk outdoors. We recommend layering up so you can always remove or add a layer as required. We will provide you with the magnifying glasses or clip on digital microscopes depending on the walk. The digital microscopes clip on to almost all smartphones, you will need to bring along a well charged phone as keeping the camera open can be quite draining on your phone’s battery.

  • Plenty of warm layers of clothing
  • Good sturdy footwear such as walking shoes, boots or wellies
  • A hat, gloves, scarf and double socks in the cold weather
  • Waterproofs
  • Medication
  • A drink and a snack
